The Construction Industry Scheme reforms will be introduced from April 2006. From that date, the Inland Revenue will start introducing services to enable CIS contractors to file monthly returns, perform subcontractor verifications, and send and receive other forms over the Internet.

Contractors will also be able to submit their monthly returns and verifications using EDI. The Inland Revenue is encouraging software developers to implement Internet and EDI capabilities in their CIS software so that data can be processed without manual intervention. Forms and returns sent by Internet or EDI will be validated and rejected if the fail the validation checks.

The final technical specification pack is planned for June 2005l with a test service available from October 2005. Software developers are invited to contact the Software Developers Support team on 01274 534666 if they wish to be involved in drawing up the technical specification.
